MojoPages Raises $5 Million In First Round, As Rival Local.com Goes Shopping

A battle is intensifying in the white-label local search market. MojoPages said Tuesday it had raised $5 million in a first round of funding—money it said it would use to boost its core private-label search offering, which lets media companies put local directories on their sites under their own brands. That pits the company directly against Local.com, which has a similar offering, according to analyst Greg Sterling. Local.com, meanwhile, said Tuesday that it had received a $10 million line of credit, which the company said would “primarily be used for expansion ... via potential acquisitions.”

Update: The SEC filing says the company has raised about $6.1 million, with another $640K left to be raised. This is likely to include the seed funding that it got earlier.

Austin Ventures led MojoPages’ round, saying it was “impressed at the number and caliber of media partners the company was able to put under contract over the last six months.” Two-year-old MojoPages now provides local listings for more than 1,000 sites, according to the release
