Motionbox Buys Video Sharing Site Viddyou

Motionbox has purchased rival video sharing site Viddyou. Financial details were not released, although Motionbox is substantially larger than Viddyou with about 14 times the traffic, according to Compete figures. Both Motionbox and Viddyou let users upload and share videos; both sites feature free and premium accounts. In a statement, Motionbox says that Viddyou customers will now be invited to move their videos on to Motionbox. Motionbox—which raised $6 million in January—says the deal will accelerate its growth. It already has seen its traffic triple since last fall when AOL (NYSE: TWX) closed down its own video service and suggested that users transfer their files to Motionbox. Release.
