NBCU: Not For Sale, Says GE Chairman

Says Jeff Immelt, in no uncertain terms, in GE’s annual reporting coming out today. NYT got a hold of it prior to its release, and the story quotes GE Chairman having a Rumsfeldian-moment-of-sorts: “Should we sell NBCU? The answer is no! I just don’t see it happening. Not before the Olympics, not after the Olympics. It doesn’t make sense.” Immelt said that NBCU as a business had “outperformed the G.E. average over the past 20 years.” He also forecast that NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) would increase its earnings by 10 percent in 2008.

This comes out after rumors that GE may consider selling its media unit after the Beijing Olympics.
