Newspapers have another outlet for e-editions, with the addition of Barnes & Noble’s Nook to NewstandDirect devices. We reported yesterday that newspaper e-circ was up 40 percent for the top 25 papers reporting to the Audit Bureau of Circulation. Today NewspaperDirect, one of the sale sources for digital replicas of newspapers, said it is now distributing more than 1,500 titles internationally through a mix of e-reader presence, browser and apps for iPhone and other devices. (No iPad optimized version yet.) Options include single issues and subscriptions.

NewspaperDirect already had a presence on the Sony (NYSE: SNE) Reader, the Kindle and the IREX, among other e-reader; it’s now available through the Nook. (The IREX allows wireless downloads; the Kindle requires USB transfer.)  For a sense of how e-editions are growing, NewspaperDirect says it took nearly 10 years to hit 1,000 titles in April 2009, but only a year to add the next 500.
