Newsweek To Grill Geithner, Stream It Live On Facebook

imageFacebook is evolving into the “go-to” social media platform for media companies trying to build more interactivity into their political content. The latest example is Newsweek: Editor Jon Meacham will ask Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner some hard questions about the fate of the U.S. economy today at 1pm EST—and Facebook is live-streaming the event.

Close to 900 users have signed up to watch, and nearly 200 members have already left wall posts. Facebook users won’t be able to suggest questions for Meacham to ask Geithner, but they will be able to react to and discuss the interview in real-time.

It’s more interactive than the ABC app that played campaign-trail video clips. It’s also different from how CNN chose to pull in status updates and discuss them on-air, since Newsweek is fostering dialogue around its content—not necessarily within it. But it’s that flexibility (and the ability to offer user interaction in a controlled, brand-friendly way), that has made Facebook such a complimentary partner for these news organizations.

You can tune into the event here.
