NextNew Networks Acquires Obama Girl Site BarelyPolitical.com

NextNew Networks, the online video micro-networks site, has bought online political satire site Barelypolitical.com. Terms were not disclosed. BarelyPolitical is best known for the online video hit “I Got a Crush on Obama”, released in June this year, and other political satire videos, and was founded by 32-year-old advertising executive Ben Relles. The company says the series of Obama Girl videos having been seen “on the Internet and television” more than 100 million times globally (on TV, huh?).

NextNew, co-founded by former MTVN exec Herb Scannell, former Sundance COO Jed Simmonds, former Hanna-Barbera president Fred Seibert, raised a $8 million round last year and formally launched early this year. This acquisition is the company’s first in the political entertainment space.
