Online Ad Spend To Pass $21 Billion For 2007; Q4 Revs Projected To Hit $6 Billion: IAB

Online ad revenues are estimated to have grown 25 percent in 2007, coming in at $21.1 billion from 2006’s $16.9 billion, the Interactive Advertising Bureau reported at its annual meeting in Phoenix. The final numbers for 2007 will be available in May. Meanwhile, Q4 numbers continued to break previous revenue records, with total revenues of $5.9 billion - up 13 percent over Q307 and 24 percent over Q406.

By way of comparison, Q307 was up 25.3 percent over the same period the year before. Meanwhile last year at this time, the IAB pointed to 34 percent year-over-year growth for 2006 compared to 2005. Also, Q406 rose 32 percent over Q405, all of which provides ample evidence that the growth rates are slowing. That said, the numbers, which reflect the law of large numbers and other factors, demonstrate the continued resilience of online ad spending in the face of recessionary pressures. Release

I would argue that, in the face of recessionary pressures, companies are looking to be smarter with less. The Internet offers this over TV ad spending - and it is easier to track ROI.
