Mashery, a provider of tools to help companies build APIs and open up their content, has raised $2 million from .406 Ventures, Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce.com, and past backers First Round Capital and Formative Ventures. The SF-based company last raised an unspecified amount last September. Given all the hoopla over making content open and available via APIs, the company sits in a hot area: it claims its revenue is up 500 percent this year, though it’s not offering any figures. Customers include Reuters (NYSE: TRI), Trulia, LinkedIn and Lonely Planet. Release.
