Online Video Aggregator Vodpod Gets First Round Funding

Vodpod, an online aggregator which allows users to collect and organize videos from all kinds of video sharing sites, has received an undisclosed amount of funding in its first round, from True Ventures. The site, based in San Francisco, was started by Mark Hall, the former VP of International at RealNetworks.

This will give you an idea of the glut of video sites: Hall mentioned in an e-mail that users on the site have collected videos from 1000 different video sharing sites...yes, you read that figure right. Once users collect and organize the videos in their “pod”, they can then take the pod and embed it into their own blogs or social media pages. The site is competing against others like Mesmo.tv, WeShow (which just got funding from Bob Pittman’s investment firm) and others.
