Paper-Based News Aggregator The Printed Blog Calls It Quits

Six months after The Printed Blog began packaging aggregated news items as free metro weeklies in Chicago and San Francisco, founder Joshua Karp is pulling the plug. Karp wrote on his company blog that the inability to attract outside investment—apart from his “six or seven credit cards”—forced him to shut down the operation.

The Printed Blog put out 16 issues, with 80,000 print copies distributed and another 100,000 or so copies downloaded. “Everyone said I was nuts, but I did it anyway,” Karp said, adding he had no regrets. He doesn’t have any plans at the moment, though Karp, ambitious as ever, does have an idea: “If an investment banker would like to buy the Sun-Times Media Group and hand me the keys, I have a plan to turn them around into a new media powerhouse.”
