Metuchen, New Jersey-based Phanfare, which offers a service for storing and sharing photos, has raised a $2.5 million third round led by Azure Capital Partners and other investors, according to VentureBeat. The company has previously raised unspecified funds from Acadia Woods Partners and individual investors, including Dwight Merriman, co-founder of DoubleClick, Kevin Ryan, ex-CEO of DoubleClick and Fabrice Grinda, founder of ringtone firm Zingy. Phanfare co-founder and CEO formerly sold his company Flashbase to DoubleClick, hence the backing from Ryan and Merriman. The company, which offers video storage as well, makes its money through subscription revenue, and faces competition from the likes of Photobucket and Flickr, among several others. Although it has around 10,000 customers, the company is not yet profitable.
