Polyvore Names Ex-Google Latin America And Asia-Pacific Chief CEO
A very high-profile hire for fashion site Polyvore. The startup, which lets users mix and match products from any online store and then share their creations with others, has added Sukhinder Singh Cassidy, who formerly led Google’s operations in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, as CEO. Singh Cassidy had left Google (NSDQ: GOOG) in April in order to become CEO-in-residence at Accel Partners, saying that she was “ready to take the next step and run or grow my own company.”
Polyvore—which was founded by several former Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) engineers—has raised just over $8 million in funding since its start in 2007, including $5.6 million in a second round in August led by Matrix Partners.

The site is growing extremely quickly and now calls itself the “largest fashion community in the world.” The NYT pointed out in a profile last year that Polyvore was bringing in more traffic than the websites of any of the top fashion magazines. Those magazines, of course, are firing back with social shopping initiatives of their own, as they continue to struggle for ad dollars. For instance, just last month, Time Inc. (NYSE: TWX) bought social shopping site StyleFeeder.

Ms. Singh Cassidy was responsible for all of Google’s commercial operations in Asia-Pacific and Latin America, and built the company’s presence from inception to scale across 40 domains and 103 different countries. Ms. Singh Cassidy first joined Google in 2003 as the General Manager for Google Local & Maps, helping to launch these innovative new services, then expanding her responsibilities to lead the company’s strategic partnerships for Google Books, Scholar, and Video. From 1999-2003, Ms. Singh Cassidy was Co-Founder and Senior Vice President of Business Development for Yodlee.com Inc., a leading solutions provider to the global financial services industry. Ms. Singh Cassidy started her Internet career in strategy and business development with Amazon.com (NSDQ: AMZN) and OpenTV. Prior to Silicon Valley, she worked in New York and London for Merrill Lynch and British Sky Broadcasting. Ms. Singh Cassidy is a board member of specialty apparel retailer J.Crew Group (JCG) and serves on the advisory board for A Woman’s Nation, a project led by Maria Shriver and Center for American Progress.
