Publicis Groupe’s Digital Revs Grow In Q4, Closing In On CEO Levy’s Goal

As the traditional ad agency structure struggles to reorient services to emerging markets and new media, Publicis Groupe’s digital revenues are at least heading in the right direction, albeit slowly. The Paris-based ad holding company saw digital revs rise 7.1 percent in Q4. Digital dollars now account for 22.4 percent of the company’s total revenue pie. Maurice Levy, chairman and CEO of Publicis, appears to be within reach of his long-stated goal of deriving a quarter of the company’s revenues from digital. He now states that he expects Publicis to get 60 percent of its revenues from digital and emerging markets combined, citing last year’s purchase of interactive ad shop Razorfish. It won’t come soon enough, as Q4 revenue fell 7.6 percent as net income dropped 5.4 percent, mostly due to the reduced ad spending at General Motors and the global economic crisis.
