RockYou Raises $50 Million In Fourth Round

Updated: Social networking app firm RockYou has raised $50 million in a fourth round of funding led by Softbank, TechCrunch reports (No official confirmation yet from the company, although it has retweeted the TechCrunch story on its official account The company confirms the funding; see release, after the jump). RockYou’s apps span all the major social networks; it also runs an ad network, which it claimed reached more than 178 million users worldwide last month, up from 130 million at the start of the year. Lately, it’s also moved into the virtual goods business. TechCrunch puts the company’s annual revenue at between $30 and $40 million.

The funding means RockYou will have now raised a total of $117 million since its start in 2005. The company last raised funds a year ago, when it added $17 million to its third round, which it said it would use in part to expand its presence in Asia.

We’ve called and e-mail representatives and will update this post with details when we hear back. Here’s the release, which says that funds will be used “to enhance RockYou’s global brand, expand current application development and create products to host in-game advertising opportunities.
