RTL-Disney Channel Buying German Mums’ Site Mamily

German broadcaster RTL is buying Cologne-based Mamily, a community site for mothers, for an undisclosed sum, Deutsche-Startups.de reports. The site lets new German mums build social connections through which they can ask questions on breastfeeding, upbringing, careers, pregnancy and more, with real-world meetups beginning to form as well. It launched in March 2007 with funding from Holtzbrinck Ventures.

Specifically, Super-RTL - a kids TV channel owned jointly by RTL and Disney (NYSE: DIS) - is buying Mamily. Holtzbrinck had already sold its share in the startup to the pair back in October. Now Super-RTL wants to expand its kid-centric audience to parents, too, leading to Super-RTL TV shows based on Mamily.de content. Deutsche-Startups.de says MamiWeb.de and NetMoms.de are also amongst a small, growing collection of motherhood sites.
