More venture capital activity in the red-hot private sales market: Zulily, the mom-focused sample sales site, which we profiled in December, has raised $6 million in a second round of funding led by new investor August Capital, only seven months after raising $4.6 million in a first round led by Maveron. The funding comes as number of private sales sites have raised big rounds this year; they’ve also attracted interest from media companies looking to build a new revenue stream in order to buffer ad sales. For its part, Zulily says it’s growing quickly; the compoany now has 40 employees and says it has offered more than 50,000 different children’s items for sale since its January launch.
