San Diego News Network Creates Parent Company; North American Expansion In The Works
Today San Diego, tomorrow: the rest of North America… That’s the plan for the San Diego News Network, whose owners have formed a parent company called U.S. Local News Network that will plot the expansion of other local news sites in 40 U.S. and Canadian cities over the next 30 months. USLNN’s goal is to create a network of interactive community hubs offering local news, sports, events, lifestyle and entertainment. But before it sets out to conquer the continent, the company will keep focusing on California. The company just launched its second creation in Southwest Riverside with SWRNN.com and its third site, for Orange County, is slated to go live before the end of the year, will serve Orange County.
The company, which secured $2 million in funding this summer, was founded by Neil Senturia (pictured), a local technology entrepreneur. He’s rounded up a number of execs from San Diego Union Tribune, including former SDUT online head Chris Jennewein as the SDNN’s president. As it works on getting the SDNN model right, the company expects the site to start breaking even by the fall of 2010.
