Skirmish Of The Bay Gets New Contestant: WSJ Starts Weekly Bay Area Edition Thursday

Effective tomorrow, the New York Times won’t be the only national paper going local in the San Francisco Bay Area. That’s when the Wall Street Journal launched its anticipated Bay Area edition with two pages of coverage in the Thursday A-section. The Journal claims an audience of more than 92,000 in the Bay Area. The local effort includes microsite WSJ.com/SF, with coverage from the Bay Area augmented by articles and video from across Dow Jones (NYSE: NWS), and a weekly e-mail newsletter. Almost all of the content on WSJ.com/SF will be free to non-subscribers; business/finance stories will be subscriber only. Areas of coverage include local business news, economics, tech, culture, sports, politics, education.

Fave line in the announcement: “The Journal has aggressively covered local news in the Bay Area since the opening of its San Francisco bureau in 1929.”
