Social Action Service The Point Raises $4.8 Million First Round
Chicago-based The Point, a platform for organizing group actions, has raised a $4.8 million first round from New Enterprise Associates. The site previously raised $2.5 million from various angels, according to reports, for a total raise of $7.3 million. The Point is designed to resolve the so-called collective action dilemma, the fact that often it’s only worthwhile to act on something unless you’re sure that others are as well. You don’t want to donate to a cause or boycott a product, unless others will do the same. This service allows users to gauge participation and buy-in in a variety of situations. The site originally launched late last year. Release.
