Social Net For Mothers, CafeMom, Secures $5 Million Financing
CafeMom, a social net for mothers, has raised $5 million in funding, according to VentureBeat (via Venturewire). The funding came from Highland Capital Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, who have backed the company for seven years and have provided about $50 million so far. The site claims to have garnered more than 65 million pageviews and 1.7 million unique visits in July. CafeMom is owned by CMI, which was co-founded by actor Andrew Shue (known for the Fox nighttime 90’s soap Melrose Place). The company’s other investors over the past few years have included Himalaya Capital Ventures and Perseus.

The first $50 M probably covered set up, PR, and all of the promotions that the website has done. CafeMom is a great place for Moms to connect. They have done so much for moms and mom-to-bes over the past few years! It’s absolutely amazing!

I am LancesMom on CafeMom and I have to say there is not one other social networking site on the internet that treats their members as this company does! And for the promotions on the site, Excellent. What other site gives Mom ‘s $500 gift cards to do room makeovers using sponsors store brands!
I got mine! Did you? Join at http://www.cafemom.com/invite Tell them LancesMom sent you!

Moms- I am a retired pastor and need your help. We have had a fire in our double wide home. We lost our ministry office as well. If any of you can help me get back on my feet I would truly appreciate it. Living on Social security is hard enough without having to start over. I have two daughters one 24 and one 17. This has been really hard on our whole family. My nephew from Louisiana is trying to protect us and is paying for everything bill wise. But he cant keep this up. Anything you can do would mean so very much. Your sister in Christ. Pastor Angelique St Hiliare 10636 Gandy Blvd Suite 2 B St Petersburg, Florida 33702 God Bless you each one.

I like the way cafemom allows you to form a group about issues that are important to you, such as Fibromyalgia sisters,God Bless America,myspace40moms,40ish and beyond. It has allowed me to meet many nice people and form friendships that I hope to keep for many years to come.

Does Cafemom helps entrepreneur moms get their business off the ground?

The site looks great but I think this company is more interested in making money than helping moms. It’s a complete ripoff of myspace and it doesn’t even give mothers any valuable information about motherhood.
A better site for new moms is: http://www.pregnancy-info.net/
Do we really need another social networking site just for moms or do you think a website that has relevant and crucial information about motherhood is more important? I rather keep my kids healthy than waste time socializing.
Myspace is also notorious for sex offenders and members posting negative things about others. You will soon see this is the same thing and that time spent on this website is time wasted.
To the moms that actually use this site, please do not fuel this type of garbage it’s pointless and a waste of time. Mothers should not be socializing we should focus on what’s best for our children and making it happen. My whole life is about my babies, not about making fake internet friends that takes time away from my family.
Shame on you Cafemom, i see right through you and so will others.

To Jada Ross-Henry
The site looks great and it’s got traffic going to it but if you want to advertise on cafemom, don’t expect any return. I have advertised on the site and it was a complete waste of money. I spent thousands of dollars and did not get one conversion. Normally I wouldn’t even mention how bad a publisher performs but this site is a complete joke.
Their traffic sucks and the members don’t click on the ads. It’s good that they have all these “big company” advertisers that don’t care about their ROI and only care to brand. The site is worthless for ROI focused advertisers.
Give this site 1 or 2 years, it will be abandoned like every other website that tries to copy the successful ones. Way to go myspace wannabes, thanks for putting out another junk site. SCUMBAGS!

Hi, i love cafemom, i have gotten some great advice and met some great mums, the only downfall that i have is it is mostly americans, so with the time difference it can be hard to get chatting to others mums, it would be great if there was more mums from the uk on!!!

I just LOVE CafeMom! I have been a member for over a year. It’s a very well run group (company). As I a Mother of 6 I don’t have much spare time. But I totally enjoy every minute I have spent on there!

Hi, I am expecting very soon. I would like to possibly share the joy of bringing up the little one with a family. Couple preferred. I am new at this. I am a very strong young lady that would like new friends that are very responsible when it comes to family. I am very excited and I am a very sincere devout person. Only serious inquires are possibly going to be involved. If you are a mother and would like to contact me and suggest useful tips, that would be appreciated. If you have a family and love the joy of possibly being a part of this joy, you are welcomed to respond.

Also I do need help with the financial part. Clothes, food, anything that would help a young lady to provide the best for her family. I am from a city that is having hard times. I would appreciate so much for assistance of knowledge and security.

July 2008 and Cafemom is still going strong!! It is NOTHING like Myspace and there is always support from other moms when you need is. Pregnancy, potty training, deployed family, cheating spouses, young moms, old moms, twins, triplets, quads and that is just to start. Cafemom has something for everyone!
Now if only I could find a cafemom.com coffee mug!

I was a memberof cafemom since the start..
They censor everything anyone says that they do not agree with.. they always use the “EXCUSE” that it breaks “policy rules”
The straw that broke the caels back for me.. was their COMPLETE apathy for our military..
Military wives and mothers were sometimes told by other memebers that their sons ar “baby killers and they wished they would ide..
THAT comment stayed up for days!
Whe I was EXTREMLY angered by this ( as MOST “normal” Americans would be .. MY post was deleted within ten minutes .. the excuse?
POLICY..
They sicken me and I reccomend that their sponsors are boycotted by anyone that loves this country and our men and women in uniform..
YOU ARE A DISGRACE ANDREW SHUE!

Cafemom is great. I’m not a novice at selling childrens items or building websites but cafemom has made it possible to keep a website going and getting more mothers to my site and keep me afloat. Plus I have joined many great groups to read, chat and view bunches of photos. My best areas in cafemom are the groups with all the blogs out there. Makes me realize I am not the only mother and grandmother out there that has same interest as me. I hope this site never closes down. I’m hooked on cafemom.com and if anybody wants to add me as a friend my user name is kaadaasita come on in and say hi
Aug 12, 2008 3:04 AM
Oops and don’t forget to join some of my groups. Great fun to network for the stay at home moms. There all in my profile at cafemom and again my user name is kaadaasita. I also have my own website http://www.toysandbooks.net

I have to say that Cafemom is going down the tubes. I’m jumping ship. too much bull gets left up and all the informative stuff gets taken down for no reason. of course it is run by men, what else did I expect to happen. after all what do they know about running a site for moms?
