Microblogging Platform StatusNet Gets $875,000
Canadian microblogging startup StatusNet has raised $875,000 in a round of seed funding from Montreal Start Up, iNovia Capital and angel investor Oleg Tscheltzoff. StatusNet’s open source platform is used by organizations to set up their own Twitter-like sites, which they can choose to make public or private. The startup says it’s already powering hundreds of microblogging sites across the web. (See an example here). StatusNet says it is commercializing its service with “support, customization services, and a hosting platform.” New funds will go to fund sales, support and marketing. More in the release.
