Sundance Channel Gets Eco-Friendly And Ad-Friendly

Now that it’s accepting advertising, the Sundance Channel hopes that its audience will accept its crass, commercial side by balancing it with a new block of primetime programming and website that showcases the network’s altruistic, eco-friendly side. Sundance is calling the effort “the next major step” in its multi-platform digital strategy, all of which involves a redesigned home page, the introduction of features that provide users more control and additional original content. If the notion of promoting both independent film and environmental activism seems somewhat unrelated, it’s worth noting that, aside from founder Robert Redford’s prominent support for both, Sundance has identified the environment as an important concern of its audience. The programming and mini-site are called The Green. The site should launch March 26, while the programming begins in April.  Both are sponsored by Lexis and Citi Smith Barney. The Green will act as a mini-site within the main Sundance website, which is currently undergoing a major overhaul.  Release
