Industry Moves: The Atlantic Recruits Wired’s Jay Lauf As Publisher And VP

The Atlantic has recruited Conde Nast’s Wired publisher Jay Lauf as its publisher and VP. Outgoing publisher Elizabeth Baker Keffer will take charge of Atlantic Live. Lauf had been at Wired since 2001, where he led the development of annual event Wired NextFest, the Wired Store and the Wired Home.

The announcement follows The Atlantic’s recent strategic move to run TheAtlantic.com as an online publication rather than a marketing tool and its recent relocation of its sales and marketing operations to New York City. This isn’t the first time the company has lured someone away from a publication; last year, it poached Andrew Sullivan from Time and has since credited him with 30 percent of TheAtlantic.com’s increased traffic.
