The Industry Standard is Coming Back, Maybe

As Business 2.0 closes, another of the old names is being dusted off and will possibly make a comeback: The Industry Standard, at TheStandard.com. The now-placeholder site was discovered by chance by Eric Savitz at Barron’s, and now IDG told us in a statement: “IDG Communications is exploring the creation of a media property covering emerging technologies and the internet economy, potentially using IDG’s Industry Standard Brand.” Do we need another publication, albeit a storied one, covering this space?

This is not the first time it has tried to made a comeback: it tried in 2004, but sputtered out soon. Meanwhile, believe it or not, the Polish version of Industry Standard is still going strong, with the same logo/design of yore.

I would love to see TheStandard.com coming back. It was one of my favourite website for many years!

Given the coverage by the blogosphere and existing media titles, I’m not sure this will be growing the market. If we didn’t know the brand already, would people be excited about this?

I noticed that the .com website has a coming soon banner on it - funnny how this has come out at the same time that Mike Butcher, previously of Industry Standard UK launches TechCrunch UK.
