Tipjoy Raises $1 Million First Round For Blog Tips, Micropayments
Micropayments, tips for bloggers… The failures of the past haven’t deterred everyone. Tipjoy, a Mass.-based Y Combinator alum, has raised a $1 million first round led by Betaworks. Other investors and advisors in this round include The Accelerator Group, David Shen Ventures, Chris Sacca, Taavet Hinrikus and Ron Bouganim. How does Tipjoy plan to do it differently: Content creators set up a simple box for users to enter in a tip amount and an email address. Tippers are then sent an email, where they can arrange payment. Perhaps this takes some of the pain points out of the micropayments process. Read more in Tipjoy’s blog post, which includes a link to the .pdf of the announcement—which you can buy for $.99.

You know, I have not heard of TipJoy before the post here, so I’ve decided to give it a try. I think its great they received the funding. If its simple and cuts out the hassle of putting cash in a blogger’s pocket, why not fund it?
