JackedJacked, a Santa Monica-based online publishing platform designed to operate with TV shows, has received $6.5 million in its first round of funding. The round was led by Provenance Ventures, Core Capital Partners, and Gabriel Venture Partners. The company, founded by former American Greeting Mobile head Bryan Biniak, has also done its first deal with NBC Sports to power NBCSports.com Play Action, an online in-game application for the 2007 Notre Dame football season.

The company’s “TVTop” platform is a mixture of online apps (virtual desktop of sorts) with a library of information, media, game, commerce and advertising widgets..essentially meant to interact with a show on TV, in this instance with sports games. For its Notre Dame dashboard, it has created 19 widgets including real-time statistics, photos, player information, play-by-play, chat, and news for both televised and non-televised Notre Dame games. Users can also purchase team paraphernalia via an Amazon widget.

The company hopes to do deals with other media companies and develop its own independent dashboards for users…its football dashboard will launch next month as a broadcast companion for NFL and NCAA football games. If all the elements Biniak showed me in a demo last month pan out, with live in-streaming into the dashboard and other social and info features, it could be an interesting play in the participatory TV category.
