Twitter Buys Analytics Startup Smallthought Systems
Twitter is buying analytics startup Smallthought Systems—an acquisition which it says will help it build “innovative realtime products for our future commercial partners.” That’s likely a reference to Twitter’s forthcoming paid premium accounts, which the company has said will include additional features for businesses, including analytics. Twitter said in mid-April that the accounts were already in beta testing with a “couple hundred companies” but wouldn’t say when they would more broadly launch.
Smallthought Systems is behind Trendly, a service that helps companies track “important changes” in their Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Analytics data. Another Smallthought Systems product, Dabble DB, helps companies analyze their spreadsheet data in different ways.

Twitter says in a blog post that it has been a Dabble DB customer and has also used Trendly. Financial terms were not released; this is Twitter’s fourth acquisition since December.
