Most of the names on the deposition lists in Viacom’s (NYSE: VIA) copyright suit against YouTube and parent Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) are business as usual—Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Chad Hurley, Steve Chin and 20-plus others on Viacom’s list; Sumner Redstone. Philippe Dauman and at least 30 others on the YouTube list. But two people on the YouTube list have nothing to do with running Viacom and everything to do with serving as illustrations that what the site does isn’t always considered evil: Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert. Both comedians have made favorable comments about YouTube and might be of use to the video-sharing site—that’s if their depositions actually are taken and anything they say gets admitted into evidence.
