Oakland, CA-based online video discovery site Mesmo has raised $900,000 in first-round funding from Felices Ventures and Maples Investments, according to PE Hub. The site allows people to organize videos that they find from around the internet, while collecting recommendations based on past history and the site’s other users. It competes against a wide range of sites doing media discovery, including Vodpod, which raised a first round in July. In an interview with NewTeeVee this summer, Mesmo CEO Davin T. Miyosh described the company as a video version of Last.fm or iLike.
