Why did Movable Type maker Six Apart sell blog community LiveJournal in December, just three years after buying it? At the World Association of Newspapers congress in Gothenburg, the company’s EMEA VP Olivier Creiche told me: “We already had three product lines of our own ... it’s just not sustainable in the long run for a company our size to maintain so many brands in so many places with so many business models.” Also, blogging is giving way to social media generally: “The hype is over and has moved on, but we still see growth in the pure blogging sector.” Watch the video...
