Video Webcast Platform Vivu Raises $3 Million First Round
ViVu, a startup that offers webcast production and management services, has picked up $3 million in its first round of funding. Inventus Capital Partners led the round, with participation from seed round-backers DFJ and Quest Ventures; Sunnyvale, Calif.-based ViVu raised $800,000 in that round, per an SEC filing.
ViVu’s Java- and Flash-based platform lets people create and attend webinars on PCs, Macs and even mobile phones, complete with streaming video capabilities. The startup says users don’t need to install anything to attend the webcasts—a direct jab at rivals like Cisco’s Webex and Citrix’s GoToMeeting—which sometimes require software downloads.
ViVu’s platform offers attendee analytics, as well as calendar and social media syncing tools; digital media conferences like AlwaysOn and the upcoming Digital Hollywood Fall are counted as clients. Companies can test ViVu’s platform for free for a month; after that it’s $49.95 per month for unlimited meetings. ViVu is founded by a group of Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent and Illinois Institute of Technology grads, including co-founder, chairman and CEO Sudha Valluru and co-founder and architect Siva Kiran. Release.
