The ebullient Steve Ballmer bounded to the stage at Microsoft’s Windows 7 launch party in New York City introduced by Kylie, a four-year-old girl who’s become the star of the company’s latest commercials. The Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) CEO is highlighting the “simplicity” of the company’s latest operating system—as in it’s easy enough for a small child to use. He then promised to show how the new software connects the PC to the phone and TV. Ballmer handed the proceedings over to Brad Brooks, Windows consumer marketing head, to provide a specific details about that.

Hoping to beat Apple’s rumored “tablet” to the punch, Brooks is demonstrating a “touch screen” feature. He then shows Windows 7’s media center, which allows for touch screen scrolling for TV programming from CBS (NYSE: CBS) and streaming rentals from Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX). Brooks also announced a deal with Amazon, which will place a Kindle app for reading on the PC. Brooks emphasizes the Kindle feature’s color, which is not available on the actual Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) device.
