Peter Guber Invests in New Tech Lifestyle Blog GeekChicDaily
With the Gizmodos, Lifehackers and newly launched online communities like GDGT catered to all things geek—is there room for another daily newsletter and site focused on everything from video games and toys, to apps, movies and comic books? A trio of media and entertainment industry execs is hoping so, betting that loyal fans of comic industry staple Wizard Magazine will eat up this new property called GeekChicDaily.
Founded this year by Wizard Magazine founder Gareb Shamus, Mandalay Entertainment CEO and former CEO of Sony Pictures Peter Guber, and early GameSpy investor and digital media entrepreneur Peter Levin, GeekChicDaily will feature news, reviews and commentary with a distinctly geeky perspective. Scott Gramling, former EIC of FHM and Wizard will head up editorial. The company has raised about $1 million worth of funding from Mandalay Corporate Enterprises (an investment arm of Mandalay Entertainment), Japanese media/entertainment biggie Kyoraku Yoshimoto Holdings, and private investor Ken Wegner.
