The Weinstein Co. is the latest indie to make a deal with the Writers Guild of America. Reuters reports that the formal agreement is expected to be signed and announced today. It’s the second such deal this week, joining Tom Cruise’s company United Artists. The deal is similar to the signed by David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants, according to Reuters (NSDQ: RTRSY).

NYT: “According to [Harvey] Weinstein, the deal includes provisions that will allow it to be superseded by any deal ultimately reached with the major companies through their bargaining group, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.”

Progress?: Meanwhile, CBS (NYSE: CBS) CEO Leslie Moonves told investors and analysts today that “there are some steps being taken” on this front. Reuters:  it “one of the few upbeat public assessments from an entertainment CEO in recent weeks.”
