Yahoo Adds Universal Search; Tries

Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) has added a significant change in its search: embrace of “universal search,” a results-blending concept being used by Ask.com, MSN and Google (NSDQ: GOOG). The main search result will now include relevant photos from its Flickr, events posted at its Upcoming.org and material from Yahoo Answers, among others, reports WSJ. Videos from YouTube, which Google owns, are also now part of the Yahoo search-results mix.

“Obviously, we have our eye on being No. 1 in search,” Vish Makhijani, Yahoo SVP and GM, said. “We’ll chip away. This was the first step. We’ll take shots, take chances.” Here’s to hoping, at least.

  • It is good that Yahoo adds videos and images in the results, but it comes a little bit too late. How long has Google already implemented these features?
It's a pity that Yahoo is just copying but doesn' t have its own ideas.
