Seven months after saying that she was “closing in on” a hire to lead the company’s international operations, Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) CEO Carol Bartz has called off the search, saying she didn’t find “anyone who was up to our needs.” During the company’s earnings call Tuesday, Bartz said she was “sick of searching for an international leader” and had decided to adjust the structure of the company’s international executive team instead.

Effective April 1, the emerging markets region—currently overseen by SVP Keith Nilsson—will be folded into three regional groups—the Americas, Europe Middle East and Africa and Asia-Pacific. Those groups will be overseen by executives who lead key geographies in each of those regions; the Americas will report to current North America head Hilary Schneider, Europe Middle East and Africa will report to Rich Riley, the leader of Yahoo in Europe, and Asia Pacific will report to Asia head Rose Tsou. All three executives will report directly to Bartz. The company is also appointing a new “global initiatives SVP,” who is tasked with “supporting global relationships and alliances” and will also report directly to Bartz, according to a spokeswoman.

The decision not to appoint an EVP to oversee international operations is a turnaround since Bartz had said since February that she wanted someone to fill that role. It was the only senior executive position that remained vacant at the company.
