Yahoo Restructures North American Sales Group

Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) plans to announce a reorganization of its sales group Monday designed to centralize relationships with advertisers and the company’s field teams, paidContent.org has learned.

Mitch Spolan, formerly a regional sales executive in Atlanta, has been appointed to the new position of VP of North American field sales. All regional sales executives will now report to Spolan, who will be based in New York City, ensuring that the company’s sales strategies are consistent throughout the U.S.

More after the jump

Beth Lawrence, a former vice president of sales for the east region, will take on another newly created post, VP of agency. Lawrence’s appointment comes as Yahoo tries to reestablish its relationships with large advertisers and ad agencies.

Both Lawrence and Spolan will report to Joanne Bradford, SVP-U.S. revenue and market development, who will continue to oversee sales.

The moves are the latest restructuring under new CEO Carol Bartz, who has pledged to streamline Yahoo’s operations.

David adds: Apart from the ad sales realignment above, WSJ found another personnel change: Brad Williams, head of communications, is gone now too. Williams was a familiar name to those who covered Yahoo, and he’s the second communications head to depart since Bartz took the reins of the company in January. In February, Jill Nash, Williams’ former boss, exited the company after two years. Williams, who joined Yahoo about a year ago eBay (NSDQ: EBAY), assumed Nash’s spot when she vacated the role, but that was short-lived; Bartz put former NetApp rep Elisa Steele in charge of communications last month.
