Industry Moves
Yahoo Connected TV VP Barry Quits

Updated: Yet another top Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) executive is leaving the company. TechCrunch reports that Patrick Barry, who led the company’s Connected TV group, told his staff in a memo this morning that “it is time for me to move on to new projects and aspirations.” Yahoo’s Connected TV Group oversees Yahoo TV Widgets—which let users interact with internet content, like photos from Flickr or news from the NYT, on their TVs.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Yahoo announced distribution partnerships for TV Widgets with major TV manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony (NYSE: SNE), LG Electronics (SEO: 066570) and VIZIO. The company also said that third-party developers would be able to create their own widgets. However, there have been no announcements from the Connected TV group since then, according to its press page.  Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, of course, is busily cutting what she considers to be the company’s non-core properties. A spokesman, however, tells us that Yahoo is “committed to building upon the innovation and leadership the team has delivered in the connected TV category” and adds that the company is conducting a search for Barry’s successor.
