Yahoo’s new CEO Carol Bartz has said that the company needs to streamline its business and “everything’s open for examination.” That paring back is starting to pick up a little bit of steam. The company has decided to close down its Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) FareChase travel search engine. In a statement on the FareChase Web site, the company says that the site will no longer be available after today. Visitors will continue to be able to search for fares on the Yahoo Travel portal, via a service powered by Travelocity. In an e-mail to paidContent.org, a Yahoo spokesperson says, “Yahoo continues to align resources to focus on core strategic priorities ... Discontinuing FareChase will allow Yahoo to focus our efforts on other key features for Yahoo! Travel, such as Yahoo! Travel Guides and Yahoo! Trip Planner.”

Yahoo has previously said it will close down its Yahoo Briefcase online storage service, effective next Monday. Yahoo purchased FareChase in 2004.
