Yahoo To Launch New Search Note Feature

For a change, Yahoo’s search business is grabbing some headlines this evening with Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) Search Pad, a tool it initially introduced in February, and is now slated to go live tomorrow.

Search Pad lets Yahoo searchers take and save notes as they visit various websites (It automatically asks a user if they want to use it when it senses a user is doing research). It’s a neat add-on, although it’s unlikely to disrupt the search business, especially since Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has a similar, albeit much more limited, way to add notes built into its search engine. Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) also introduced its own web note service, Thumbtack, in December. Search Pad should however help boost loyalty among Yahoo searchers, especially since people who use it will likely want to return to their notes.

This does not seem like a "search feature" to me. This reminds me of a "favorites" feature because it focuses on web sites, not the query in question.

If I'm correct, FireFox has this built in their bookmarks section and I actually use it and do searches against the bookmarks.
