YouTube anti-piracy software policy draws fire: YouTube’s blackmailing tactics highlighted: it plans to introduce anti-piracy technology, but the tools are currently being offered as part of broader negotiations on licensing deals, media companies say. One media industry source likened YouTube’s policy to a “mafia shakedown”, the story says. Some legal experts said YouTube has no obligation to invest heavily in leading-edge technology only to give it away.
The Old Guard Flexes Its Muscles (While It Still Can): Viacom and NBC still talking on developing a YouTube rival? Viacom walked out late last year, and NBC is trying to bring it to the table again..no success on that till now. Yahoo, meanwhile, eager to regain some ground on Google, has been courting the media giants to let it distribute their video wares.
Chelsea FC strike YouTube deal: Chelsea have done deal to show archive footage and club news on YouTube, the first such deal to be done by a Premiership football club. The deal will see content from the club’s subscription channel Chelsea TV appear in a branded area of YouTube. The site will feature daily news updates, archive footage of Chelsea games, and other features including jokes from Chelsea physio Billy McCulloch.
