Ambient Devices, the company which manufactures the “information orb”, so to speak, has added AccuWeather, for weather info, and Yoodle, for financial info, among its roster of 25 content providers, the company announced at CES.

Any Ambient Orb or Ambient Beacon or Ambient Dashboard will be able to show weather conditions and up to 14 day forecasts for any zip code in the US, or major city in the world.

Meanwhile, the company was in some controversy at CES: it released a statement to people exiting Bill Gates’ keynote that took issue with the software giant’s SPOT watch offering. “Here we go again,” the company said. “SPOT is another attempt by Microsoft to lock in customers with a closed, proprietary platform. It does not offer developers or third-party content providers the ability to send their own information over the SPOT network.” Ambient said its own technology, which can be embedded in devices like watches, is based on an open-source platform with Open APIs.
