Blockbuster May Launch Download Service; HD May Hinder Such Service

Blockbuster CEO John Antioco was speaking at the Reuters Media Summit today, and said that it may introduce a movie download service as soon as next year (as if its forays into online DVD rental went blockbuster, so to speak). He said it might be possibly in conjunction with a cable or satellite provider. Blockbuster is an investor in CinemaNow.
He also said that online downloads will not siphon off sales of high definition DVDs until the speed and quality of downloads improve…Antioco said sales of movie downloads will reach about $1 billion by 2009, or less than half a percent of overall film industry revenue.
