Updated: read below: Gather.com, the Boston-based online networking/community site, will announced a $6 million (yes!) funding round next week. The new venture is a social networking website devoted to creating an online community of public-radio listeners.

This new funding is being led by Jim Manzi, former CEO of Lotus Development Corp. in Cambridge, and Allen & Co., the New York investment bank co-run by Bill Bradley, the former US senator.

Besides the users themselves, the site is recruiting dedicated bloggers by offering them a share of the company’s ad revenue.

This follows a $1 million angel round last year by American Public Media Group (APMG), parent company to Minnesota Public Radio.
