Dell Finishes Flirtation With Branded MP3 Players; Sells Last DJ Ditty

Too bad Dell didn’t have a patent ... while the attention was on exploding batteries, Dell dropped the DJ Ditty, introduced last year as a Shuffle alternative that could hold more songs,  and had features the Apple lanyard player lacked (an LCD screen, FM radio). Dell launched its player effort in 2003, just one more in a list of ideas diverting the company from its core business. It even tried to woo users away from iPods with trade-in rebates. But, hey, Dell offers a variety of OPMP—other people’s media players.
