Industry Moves: Rothenberg Heads IAB; Calacanis Lands At Sequoia; Pittman On SpotRunner Board

—Jason Calacanis, the co-founder of Weblogs Inc (sold to AOL last year) who left the parent company last month, has landed at VC firm Sequoia Capital as an EIA (Entrepreneur in Action), whatever that means…we used to call it EIR. Which means he’ll probably bolt out of Sequoia faster than AOL…that’s what EIRs are supposed to do anyway. Related: AOL Changes: Calacanis Finds The Exit; Alvey Stays
—Another former AOLer, former COO, Robert Pittman, has joined the board of Spot Runner, the LA-based firm providing Internet-based ad placement services for TV ads.
—This is a surprise: The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has decided to go with a non-practitioner: it chosen advertising and media columnist Randall Rothenberg to head the organization. Rothenberg will replace longtime president and CEO Greg Stuart. Rothenberg has been serving as senior director of intellectual capital at Booz Allen Hamilton, where he has been responsible for the company’s thought leadership operation. Before that, Rothenberg held the CMO position at Booz Allen. His book “Where The Suckers Moon” is my all-time favorite advertising-related book.
