George Kliavkoff is leaving MLBAM for the newly created position of chief digital officer of NBCU reporting to Beth Comstock, president of NBCU Digital Media and Market Development. At NBCU, he will be responsible for furthering the digital media strategy and developing new business models and markets.  He’ll also oversee new broadband and wireless operations, digital innovation and product development, portal and partner relationships, and the Digital Studios, which produces unique, original and interactive content for all digital platforms. He starts in September and will be based in New York.
Kliavkoff recently was promoted to EVP-business at MLBAM, where he was responsible for new media licensing and business development. He joined MLBAM from RealNetworks, before that he practiced law.
Update: MLBAM spokesman Jim Gallagher told me Kliavkoff’s successor already has been hired; the announcement should come within the next couple of weeks.
