Thomas Ryan, the recently-promoted SVP of digital and mobile and development worldwide at EMI, is leaving the music label in mid-Jan next year, and plans to return to his entrepreneurial roots, according to an internal memo sent by David Munns, CEO of EMI North America. Not sure what he is starting (or which startup he will land at)....in 1996, Ryan founded CDuctive, one of the first sellers of downloadable music and custom CD compilations. In 1999, he sold CDuctive to Emusic, which was in turn acquired by Universal Music Group.
This is among the slew of senior digital execs that have left EMI this year, including Ted Cohen and Adam Klein.
The digital side at EMI is now headed by Barney Wragg…he was appointed back in August.
