iTunes Movie Downloads Due To Launch Mid-September?

We’ve been on this story for a while: Apple plans to introduce movies downloads from the iTunes store in mid-September, reports BW, citing sources. This report focuses on the Wal-Mart/Apple clash, though cut-price DVDs aren’t exactly going to appeal to the same audience as teched-up video iPod owners. Apple will charge $14.99 for new releases and $9.99 for older films. BW reports that Walt Disney is the only studio to sign up so far, though indie-studio Lions Gate has as well, as we reported earlier this month. Fox Entertainment is also rumoured but Wal-Mart is apparently putting pressure on other studios not to join. Wal-Mart also confirmed that it is talking to studios about its own movie download service, as reported a few months back.
