Korea’s National Assembly has finally passed a law allowing telecom companies to offer real-time broadcasting over their broadband networks..in other words, they can offer IPTV services. So far, KT Corp, Hanaro Telecom and LG Dacom have provided VOD services through their Mega TV, Hana TV, and My LG TV services, respectively, without relevant laws…Right now these services offer TV programs several hours or days after terrestrial broadcasters have first relayed them, reports Chosun Korea. The new law means these programs can be broadcast over IP live.
ET:  Set-top box makers such as Celrun Co Ltd and Humax, and content providers like soap opera producer Olive Nine Co are also set to benefit from the law.
KoreaHerald: KT, the country’s largest fixed-line operator, will not be required to spin off its IPTV business. The country’s broadcasting sector had demanded that KT spin off its IPTV unit on concerns that the firm expand its monopolistic position into the IPTV market.
